Steve Martin founded SFM Consulting in 2001 after spending more than 30 years as a broadcast professional in both commercial and non-commercial radio as a program director, news director, talk show host, and reporter. For 14 years he was a member of the senior management team at WAMU FM, in Washington D.C. As program director he supervised the on-air staff and was responsible for the on-air programming of one of the nation's leading public radio stations. Martin was twice elected to the board of directors of the Public Radio Program Directors Association serving from 1995-2001. Martin holds an undergraduate degree in Broadcast Journalism and a Masters Degree in Organization Development (MSOD) from American University.
SFM Consulting provides program development and program representation services for public radio stations and public radio program producers including: effective program scheduling; audience research analysis; marketing; on-air promotion talent development; development and on-going support for call-in talk programming. For program producers services include: assessing marketplace potential for new programs designing and implementing marketing strategies to increase distribution and build audience. In addition SFM Consulting offers a broad spectrum of Organization Development services. These services include personal coaching for managers, facilitation of staff retreats, team building strategies, strategic planning and conflict resolution strategies.
